I flew China Southern into Guangzhou, landed at 06:20, and had booked the 09:08 high-speed train out of Guangzhou South because the internet told me three hours was plenty. It was not plenty. Immigration, the baggage belt, the 45-minute metro ride to the station and the security queue ate all of it, and I watched the departure board flip to the next train while I was still three floors underground.</p>
